The Project Manager v26 n6 Presidents Message
The AIPM has a many reasons to celebrate; we have just completed another year of actions that will help our members and our Institute grow and develop. In Dublin, Ireland on 27 September 2009 the Council of Delegates from 45 countries of the International Project Management Association (IPMA) voted to make AIPM the representative member association for Australia. This symbolic change has added a new international dimension to the AIPM that will provide it with global recognition and make it more appealing to many businesses and corporations seeking affiliation on an international level. Most importantly, it will enable our competency certification standards to become internationalised in the future. At the IPMA Dublin meeting, and in addition to its new membership, the AIPM succeeded in securing hosting rights for the 2011 World Congress for Project Management in Brisbane. A dynamic presentation developed by AIPM’s National Support Office and Board was used to promote the event and win votes. A key aspect of AIPM’s international strategy is to foster better relationships and promotion of project management across our region of the world. One of AIPM’s contributions has been to lead an initiative to re-launch the Asia Pacific Federation of Project Management, with the AIPM as regional secretariat. Planned for completion in Hong Kong in March 2010, the re-launch will strengthen the AIPM and IPMA’s position in the Asia-Pacific region. Following our South Australian national conference, detailed planning will be scaled up for the Darwin version in 2010. The Darwin conference will have a strong Asia-Pacific focus, hosting inaugural conference meetings for the new Asia Pacific Federation of Project Management. These conferences put the AIPM in the national, regional and global spotlight for project management. They will promote our Institute as a global leader in the development of project management professionalism. For more comprehensive details of activities throughout the year, refer to the AIPM Annual Report for 2009 posted on the AIPM website (www.aipm.com.au). Dr Bill Young National President |
