Australian Institute of Sport Redevelopment Project The Australian Institute of Sport opened in 1981 and has expanded its operations to 35 sport programs in 26 sports. After over 20 years of operation, it was clear that new facilities were needed to allow the AIS to continue delivering world class sports education.
GHD was engaged by the Australian Sports Commission to project manage the delivery of a redeveloped AIS. Four new, architecturally elegant and energy efficient building complexes would sit alongside transformed existing buildings within a landscaped environment for all to enjoy.
The major works of the AIS Redevelopment Project have satisfied the Australian Sports Commission's requirements and expectations. Designs of the major works have their own individual features and are seen as successfully contributing to the overall campus environment through common architectural themes and materials and site-wide consistent landscaping treatments. Most importantly, the major works were completed in time for the all important preparation of Australia's 2008 Olympic team.
