Knowledge and Research Council

The Knowledge and Research Council (the Council) was established under Section 10.1.1(c) of  the Constitution of the Australian Institute of Project Management (the Institute) in September 2009.   The Knowledge and Research Council undertakes the following roles and responsibilities on behalf of the Board.

  1. Research exchange; create a forum for researchers, academics and holders of Project Management knowledge to share ideas and develop concepts.
  2. Research support; encourage research into project management and the other disciplines and professions that affect project management.
  3. Project management education; examine issues relating to the higher education sector in developing best practice in project management.
  4. Researcher involvement; enable the Institute to allow the participation of researchers in the management of the Knowledge and Research functions of the Institute.
  5. Board advising; on request from the Board or General Manager provide recommendations on Knowledge and Research issues.

 The Council is made up of representatives from Australian Universities and Industry. The Council's purpose is to promote, support and develop Australian Project Management Research.

Current Priorities

  1. Appointment of WC11 Chair technical paper review committee
  2. Lodgement of Application for ARC grants recognition, January, 2011.
  3. Thought leader program for 2011.
  4. Next Researchers Forum date and management arrangements to be confirmed for 2011.
  5. Doctoral Research Support, applicants to be sought interviewed and grant awarded.

AIPM recognition by ARC as preferred Research Supporter    

 In particular the recognition of AIPM by ARC, and academic bodies for DEST points, arising from AIPM’s Annual Conference, journals and proceedings. The recognition of these a high level forum for research and industry papers is now being addressed, as follows;

  1. An application for recognition by ARC based on just received criteria for recognition by ARC is to be submitted in January for a ranking to be issued in February.
  2. Members are being asked to resubmit papers for cataloguing that have been lost, including copies of conference proceedings that are not in the AIPM records.
  3. AIPM staff work on cataloguing past papers including Conference papers and co published research findings is proceeding.

The aim is to establish AIPM library and Conference records as a respected source document for citation by researchers.

Research Support by ARC and Business joint ventures.

The key objectives are to promote research in PM through; 1.Leverage of member involvement in research through access to members for focus groups, industry opinion and survey formulation. 2.Support transparency and probity in relation to AIPM involvement with Universities and Academic bodies.
